The financial services sector is taking a big hit on security. Hackers have turned towards FSIs in an attempt to gain access to personable identifiable information (PII) of its customers. A recent interview with Eric Meyer, CEO and founder of Apvera explains the importance of providing the right security four FSI customers – not just random tasks that mitigate damage but steps that actively prevent the success of the attacks.
The biggest threat to companies is the end user. The level of risk is the same across all industries, but there is a much more sensitive risk associated with the financial industry. This makes it even more important for companies to create actionable steps that detail the ways in which they can protect their data and reduce damage should an attack occur.
The biggest risk to the organization is the end user. End users see network resources as endless ways to store data, communicate, transfer information, and use applications. Although the end user doesn’t always know the implications behind their actions, they are one of the biggest risk to the organization with many of the activities they do on the network.
Take for instance, browsing a URL that contains malware. The end user can download this malware and spread it to any number of individual PCs on the network. The organization can take steps to stop this activity by actively monitoring traffic across the network. When suspicious activity occurs from and end user’s machine, Apvera tools are used to detect the behavior and alert the administrator.
We look at URLs that people access on the network and over the Internet. Apvera’s tool reviews the information sent across the network, reviews keywords and packet content, and makes the decision on whether or not the data stream should be addressed by the administrator.
The hacking cycle will never end, so it’s up to security companies to come up with better ways to protect the network. The key is to review the behavior of data transfers and user transmissions and automate this system to make it effective yet easier for the administrator who must monitor thousands of computers on an enterprise network.
With FSIs as a major target, security should always be a priority. Create actionable steps that determine the way you want to safeguard data. These steps can save you from breaches that can severely cripple the organization.
